Regulations designed on money laundering affects PayPal payments to India
Feb.09, 2010
Mumbai: Indian government’s new regulations which were designed to prevent money laundering on international banking transactions, had led the online payments’ service Paypal to halt personal payments to India.
However, commercial payments to merchants in India would continue as normal.
This halt will affect thousands of Indian freelancers who are paid via Paypal for various kind of work like web design, writing and software development.
No specific reason was provided by Paypal apart from concerns raised by PayPal’s “business partners and stakeholders”.
