Klagenfurt court jails German for money laundering
May.20, 2010, 15:00
A German has been found guilty of money laundering by a Carinthian court.
Klagenfurt provincial court judge Christian Liebhauser-Karl sentenced the man to a two-year jail term today (Thurs), with another year suspended.
Prosecutors said the man, 62, had opened several bank accounts across Europe – most of them in the southern Austrian province of Carinthia - where he laundered around 700,000 Euros of an Italian real estate firm headquartered in Capri.
They added 500,000 Euros were confiscated and will now be returned to aggrieved parties.
The defendant – a resident of Carinthia – admitted his guilt and accepted the verdict which is not yet legally binding.
